The bouffe-y hairstyles of the 1950’s and 60’s, were like elaborate flamingos perched on Lady heads; fabulous, sexy or poodley helmets of immovable zhush. These unique hairstyles, required specific cut and curling/styling techniques to achieve the elaborate look. Recently, I was lucky enough to find a manual from 1969, full of cutting and styling directions for hairdressers. A one or two of them looked very much like the Queen’s trademark bouffe, the rest are exciting, fabulous or vulgar – 100% yummy.
